During the waiting for the start Konstantin sat on Drag and looked nervous from left to right. Next to his starting box stood snorting the young stallion Open Bridge To Atlantis, a direct discendant of Poetry in Motion who made himself a name with flat races.
Right next to him he saw old friends - a young girl on Valkyries Ride, a don mare which they've sold a couple of years ago to Scottland.
Along with all the other entrants this were hard competitors.
The starting shot came and for a few seconds Konstantin was busy to hold Drag back because he knew she wouldn't stand the distance if she would run first. They needed to wait and be patient. In a pinch they would roll up the field from behind.
But Drag had other plans - she fought against the reins and increased her speed to pass by other horses.
She reached Valkyries Ride and made intentions to catch up with Atlantis who was right in front of them. Konstantin gave up and loosened the reins - hoping hat Drag would have the breath for this distance...

Als Konstantin in der Startbox auf Drag saß, schaute er nervös nach links und rechts. Neben ihm stand schnaubend der junge Hengst Open Bridge To Atlantis, ein direkter Nachfahr von Poetry In Motion, der sich im Rennen seinen Namen gemacht hatte. Rechts neben ihm sah er alte Bekannte - ein schmächtiges Mädchen auf Valkyries Ride, einer Donstute aus Staniza-Zucht, die sie vor einigen Jahren erfolgreich nach Schottland verkauft hatten.
Neben all den anderen Startern war das eine harte Konkurrenz.
Der Startschuss fiel und er hatte einige Sekunden, um mit Drag zu kämpfen. Ihrem Temperament folgend, wollte sich die Stute sofort an die Spitze setzen, aber Konstantin wusste, dass sie so die ganze Strecke nicht aushalten würde.
Er musste warten, notfalls auch ganz zurückfallen, um das Feld dann von hinten aufzuräumen. Drag unterdessen stemmte sich mit aller Kraft gegen die Zügel und zog an einigen Pferden vorbei. Konstantin hoffte inständig, dass sie sich mäßigen würde - aber da hatte sie bereits zu Valkyries Ride aufgeschlossen und beschleunigte, um den vor ihr galoppierenden Hengst aus dem Moonlight Forrest Stable einzuholen. Konstantin blieb nichts anderes übrig, als sie laufen zu lassen und inständig zu hoffen, dass sie genug Atem für die Strecke hatte...
